Michelle Smit has always been passionate about art education. For years, she worked as a volunteer to develop Duniway Elementary School’s parent led art program by writing lessons, teaching art and training parents to teach art. An artist and mom of two boys, she knows how valuable art can be to a child’s development and educational experience. The last few years, Michelle has been a teaching artist in residence at Harrison Park, Beverly Cleary, Woodstock, Grout, Laurelhurst, Sojouner and Abernethy Elementary School, collaborating with the teachers to incorporate their curriculum into each art lesson to provide a more meaningful and memorable experience. Michelle is an enthusiastic and patient teacher who provides easy to understand instruction for even the most complex lessons.
Cool Art School studio is located in southeast Portland in a wonderful artistic industrial building called Holgate Building. There is a diverse collection of artists in Holgate Building. We have painters, a sculptor, a photographer, clothing designers, furniture designer-builder, architect and of course, a wonderful art teaching studio!
